USE OF DRONES BY ISIS SPURS TERRORISM FEARS
I’ve long wondered how long it would take bad guys to get around to this. With usual lack of imagination, the government has permitted unrestricted sales of hobby drones and now they are being weaponized. You could do the same with some model airplanes with 6 ft. wingspans and multiple engines capable of carrying a serious payload. That means nowhere, and I mean nowhere, is safe. At least the Dutch and the French are thinking creatively about the problem. However, the eagles won’t last long if the terrorists rig the drones to explode on contact. Another solution is to jam the radio frequencies used to control these aircraft. It would also make sense to stop the sale and forbid the use of these potentially lethal devices except under stringent control.

Late last month, a pair of Islamic State fighters in desert camouflage climbed to the top of a river bluff in northern Iraq to demonstrate an important new weapon: a small drone, about six feet wide with swept wings and a small bomb tucked in its fuselage.

Terrorists have been modifying devices that can be bought in toy stores into weapons and radio-controlled spies, the Associated Press reported.
Comment:
The genie is out of the bottle. The West is defenseless against car/truck, small arms, IED, and now drone attacks. This can only get worse when self-driving cars become commonplace. Trying to meet force with force under these asymmetrical warfare conditions is a fruitless game of whack-a-mole.
The only answer is to stop provoking terrorists. Withdraw the Western military presence from the Middle East and focus law enforcement’s attention on domestic threats. It will take a while for things to cool down, but eventually, without ongoing provocation, and with constructive measures by the West to massively aid refugees in hospitable neighboring states, the righteous anger fueling terrorism should wane.
